Sound bridge between Orient and Occident: ÉRMA Ensemble presents "Crossing the Abyss"

On 1 November 2024 at 8 pm, the ÉRMA Ensemble and the talented singer Derya Yıldırım invite you to the Uraniatheater Köln-Ehrenfeld. Under the title "Crossing the Abyss - creating a versatile acoustic space between Orient and Occident", a unique concert will take place that interweaves the musical traditions of East and West and creates a platform for cultural understanding.

Musical journey between tradition and modernity.

The project combines microtonal oriental folk music with contemporary classical music. Emotional compositions by Nikos Galenianos and Wim Henderickx explore human tragedies and offer a space for improvisational development. About the performers

The ÉRMA Ensemble is an innovative music ensemble based in Cologne that is dedicated to exploring intercultural musical traditions. Through creative projects and collaborations with international artists, the ensemble aims to build bridges between different cultures and bring the diversity of the musical world to life.
Derya Yıldırım from Hamburg is a leading voice in Turkish-European crossover. She learnt instruments such as piano, guitar, ud and bağlama from an early age. After studying at the Hamburg Academy of Music and the University of the Arts in Berlin, she dedicated herself to the reinterpretation of traditional Turkish poetry and Anatolian folk music. With her multi-layered voice and the bağlama, she casts a spell over the audience. Yıldırım is also a member of the band "Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek", which was signed by the US label Big Crown Records after three albums. Their new, eagerly awaited album will be released in spring 2025.
